It is in you. Burning in your veins. Shouting with every heartbeat, Yelling with every breath. A blood born connection
you can not escape, It is Clan Donald!
It is there in every sunrise. Seen in every smile. Whispering sweet songs to it's scattered children. It is the Highlands
of Scotland.
-Donna Burdette
When was your moment? That moment that she called to you, and Scotland called you home. My moment started off innocent
enough. My music teacher had decided to expose us to various types of music. The third day was "Celtic Day", and even
though it has been close to ten years since that first time ever hearing the bagpipe, I still can not find the words
to explain the emotions I felt when the bagpipes played. It stirred something deep within my spirit that I did not know
existed. Up until that point, I had been the average American teenage girl whose only connection to my McDonald roots was
the burger joint. Little did I know, just what it meant to be McDonald. Little did I know, that the country of Scotland
would imbed itself in my heart for all my lifetime. All thanks to a musical instrument that was once outlawed.

They came from fort william Wi’ murder in mind The campbells had orders King william
had signed Put all to the sword These words were underlined And leave none alive called Macdonald. Lyrics
from "Massacre of Glencoe" by John McDermott
It was in the early morning hours of Feb 13, 1692, that the most vile act of betrayal was commited against the MacDonalds
of Glencoe at the orders of a King called William of Orange. For weeks the MacDonalds had shared their food and homes with
the soldiers who had come to them, unaware of the true reasoning of their presence. The truth was revealed to them in the
early morning hours as the MacDonalds slept soundly. The soldiers were there for one reason, and that was to kill the same
people that had welcomed them.
38 MacDonalds were murdered and another 40 women and children died of exposure after watching their homes burn
to the ground.
